Credit Union History

In 1935, the West Penn Power Affiliated Federal Credit Union was established to serve the employees of West Penn Power.  The Credit Union changed its’ name to Allegheny Advantage Federal Credit Union and then to Allegheny Energy Federal Credit Union.

In 2012, the name was changed to FirstEnergy Choice Federal Credit Union to coincide with our updated charter which offers membership to family members of existing members, all employees/retirees of FirstEnergy Corp. and their family members, and retirees of Allegheny Energy, Inc. and their family members.

The Credit Union is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are members and are elected by the members.  The Board, in turn, employs a Professional Staff to operate the Credit Union.  Members also elect a volunteer Credit Committee from the membership who reviews loan applications.  Elections are held by mail annually.  The election results are announced at the Annual Meeting of the members, which is held in April or May.
